ABOUT
George Alekou was born in Athens, to a painter mother and a doctor father. This combination of artistic and scientific backgrounds likely influenced his dual interests in the visual arts and medicine.
He grew up immersed in the art world, spending a lot of time in his mother’s painting studio and learning about visual arts alongside his uncle, Angelos Kalogeridis, a prominent Greek visual artist and photographer. This early exposure to the arts, especially in the creative environment of his family, played a key role in developing his passion for painting.
Despite his strong artistic inclinations, Alekou pursued Medicine and graduated as a doctor. His academic background in the sciences contrasts with his deep passion for the human body and emotions, which later became central themes in his artwork.
Although his primary education was in Medicine, Alekou didn’t abandon his artistic aspirations. He sought out formal mentorship in the visual arts, training under several well-known Greek artists, including Grigoris Kolizeras, Panagiotis Beldekos, Giannis Ziogas, and Konstantinos Vaviloussakis.
